About

Held around Castel del Monte within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, this Nova Eroica edition takes riders along ancient transhumance paths in the heart of Abruzzo. Routes of 60, 84, 92 and 141 km with 2,730 metres of climbing explore one of the least-known gravel destinations in Italy, offering high-mountain terrain, medieval villages and ecologically rich alpine meadows. The single-day race format accommodates both competitive participation and a more relaxed exploration of the territory. The short punchy ramps and irregular ground of this Italian interior demand fast muscular response, a quality specifically targeted in the strength and neuromuscular blocks within the Push Rider method. In Push Training 360, those blocks sit within the threshold-building phase as watt-calibrated explosive intervals, with the coach's weekly review ensuring recovery between sessions so the athlete's legs are primed to respond to every acceleration the Gran Sasso throws at them.

How to prepare for the Nova Eroica Gran Sasso with PUSH TRAINING 360?

Over 12 weeks with weekly reviews, the PUSH TRAINING 360 plan covers 4 phases: aerobic base (long mountain rides with progressive elevation), threshold building (uphill intervals to handle 2,730 m accumulated gain), specificity load (simulating the Gran Sasso profile with high-mountain and technical gravel sections), and tapering in the final 10 days. Three-phase nutrition covers pre-race glycogen loading, systematic in-race fuelling, and recovery. Pacing requires conserving energy in the first half given the elevation accumulated on the transhumance paths.
