About

The Dark Peak Gravel Epic takes riders into the heart of the Peak District, England's most visited national park and one of its most rewarding for off-road cycling. Starting from Bakewell, the 63 and 95 km options accumulate 2,150 metres of elevation over limestone pack-horse trails, peat moorland bridleways and iconic routes including the Mam Tor ridge. With approximately 50 percent of the course off-road and classified as highly technical, wide tyres and strong bike handling are non-negotiable. Part of the Glorious Gravel Series. Push Training 360 integrates off-road pedalling technique on low-grip surfaces into the specificity phase, with weekly coach reviews tracking how your FTP translates to Peak District terrain.

How to prepare for the Dark Peak Gravel Epic with PUSH TRAINING 360?

PUSH TRAINING 360 provides a 12-week plan with weekly review to prepare for 63 or 95 km and 2,150 m of elevation on a very technical course with 50 percent off-road. Phase 1 (aerobic base) builds the required endurance with long rides incorporating unpaved sections. Phase 2 (threshold building) targets power on short steep climbs like those on Mam Tor. Phase 3 (specificity load) includes rides on mixed terrain with frequent surface and pace changes, developing bike-handling technique on singletrack and dirt tracks. Phase 4 (tapering) reduces volume in the 10 days before race day. Nutrition follows three phases: pre-race carbohydrate loading, continuous intake of 60-90 g per hour, and protein recovery. Race strategy on such a technical course requires careful energy management on the climbs and recovery on descents and technical sections, prioritising safe riding over unnecessary risk.
