About

The Lauf Gritfest is one of the few multi-stage gravel events on the UK calendar and arguably the most concentrated in terms of climbing density relative to time. Three days in the Cambrian Mountains of Wales, based around Rhandirmwyn in Carmarthenshire, with seven timed segments across the 73 and 128 km options, accumulating 3,170 metres of elevation. A capped field of 400 riders keeps the atmosphere intimate and the logistics personal. The Welsh terrain delivers open moorland climbs, conifer forest descents and persistent westerly winds. Part of the Gravel Earth Series. Push Training 360 treats inter-stage recovery as a deliberate training variable across its nutrition and sport psychology pillars, with weekly coach reviews tracking how you manage cumulative load before facing day three in the Cambrians.

How to prepare for the Lauf Gritfest with PUSH TRAINING 360?

PUSH TRAINING 360 designs a 12-week plan with weekly review tailored to a 3-day stage format with timed segments. Phase 1 (aerobic base) builds the endurance to chain consecutive days of effort in the Cambrian Mountains. Phase 2 (threshold building) develops power for efforts of 5 to 30 minutes needed across the 7 special stages. Phase 3 (specificity load) includes back-to-back intense riding days followed by active recovery, simulating the stage format. Phase 4 (tapering) preserves muscular freshness. Nutrition follows three phases: maximum glycogen loading before day one, continuous intake of 60-90 g of carbohydrates per hour during each stage, and accelerated protein recovery between stages. Pacing across stages is critical: managing accumulated fatigue to arrive at the final day still able to compete in the closing timed segments.
