About

Basajaun is a 890 km, 15,000-metre ultra departing from Vitoria-Gasteiz, named after the legendary forest guardian of Basque mythology. The route reflects that spirit: intricate mountain paths, dense ancient woodland, exposed ridgelines and a raw natural environment that commands respect. Designed as an unsupported event for high-level ultra-endurance cyclists who can manage multi-day effort without external help. Push Rider Training 360 tackles this ultra through four watt-periodised phases for wet technical terrain, the sport psychology pillar for cold management and strategic sleep protocols, and weekly coach review calibrating real power output on relentless rollers —the three differentiating factors in an 800-plus-kilometre ultra across the wet northern highlands. One of the most demanding ultra events in northern Spain, starting from the culturally rich city of Vitoria-Gasteiz.

How to prepare for the Basajaun with PUSH TRAINING 360?

With 890 km and 15,000 m of elevation starting from Vitoria-Gasteiz, the Basajaun is one of the hardest ultra events on the Spanish calendar. The 12-week PUSH TRAINING 360 plan with weekly review must be taken to the extreme: a very extensive, high-volume aerobic base, threshold construction focused on pedalling economy over long distances, specificity loading with multiple consecutive days on a loaded bike including Basque terrain, and a final taper. The 3-phase nutrition approach is critical at this level: maximum glycogen loading before, a continuous fuelling plan alternating energy sources throughout the route, and strategic protein recovery and rest at each stop. Pacing strategy must be ultra-restrained from the first kilometre, prioritising sleep management and active recovery at stops in order to tackle all 890 km with a realistic chance of finishing.
