About

The Gravel Desert Huesca-Monegros by The Traka takes riders deep into Los Monegros, one of the most arid and compelling landscapes in the Iberian Peninsula. Starting from Grañén, the race offers two distances of 170 and 80 kilometres, both sharing 1,500 metres of elevation gain. Dusty tracks, open steppe, and the notorious Cierzo wind make for a demanding and atmospheric challenge. As part of the Gravel Earth Series, the event draws an international field. The almost lunar scenery gives this race a character unlike almost anything else in Spanish gravel. At Push Rider, the threshold-building block of the 12-week programme is where power-zone work and crosswind pacing are developed; weekly TrainingPeaks reviews with the coach sharpen the race strategy so the Cierzo and the dry Monegros heat do not break the effort plan on race day.

The PUSH TRAINING 360 method structures 12 weeks of preparation with weekly review across four phases: aerobic base, threshold building, specificity load, and tapering. For the long distance of 170 km with 1,500 m of elevation in Los Monegros, the specificity load includes sessions on arid, wind-exposed terrain (cierzo wind); threshold work targets sustained medium pace on flat ground. For the 80 km option, the tapering phase is more pronounced. Nutrition follows three phases: pre-event loading, in-race fuelling, and post-race recovery. Pacing strategy in desert terrain prioritises hydration management and wind protection.
