About

The Monumental Gravel is a self-supported ultra-gravel event that weaves together the defining landscapes of Belgian cycling history into one extraordinary challenge. Starting from Sint-Joris-Weert in Flemish Brabant, the routes of 300, 500 and 800 km pass over the iconic bergs of Flanders, the cobbled roads of the spring classics, the Ardennes ridgelines and the paths of Liege-Bastogne-Liege, with up to 10,000 metres of elevation gain on the longest format. No external support is permitted, so riders must manage nutrition, sleep and logistics entirely independently. For athletes preparing the 800 km format with Push Rider, sleep distribution strategy, night-time pacing and multi-day nutritional planning are trained explicitly in the months before the event, alongside the aerobic base required to sustain the effort. The Push Training 360 plan dedicates specific blocks to ultra sport psychology — extreme fatigue management, field decision-making and night-time resilience — with the coach reviewing weekly that each of the 12 preparatory weeks builds the capacity to perform when the body has been pedalling for 48 hours.

How to prepare for Monumental Gravel with PUSH Training 360?

The PUSH Training 360 12-week program with weekly review and four phases requires special adaptation for the ultra formats of 300, 500 and 800 km with up to 10,000 m of elevation gain. Phase 1 aerobic base accumulates high volume with rides of 5-8 hours to adapt the body to prolonged self-supported effort. Phase 2 threshold development works on metabolic efficiency in zone 2 to maximise fat utilisation, which is critical in a multi-day ultra. Phase 3 specificity includes night riding simulations, sleep management during effort, and sectors with cobblestones and bergs. Phase 4 tapering is more conservative and shorter to preserve high-volume adaptation. Nutrition is structured in three phases: carbohydrate loading before departure, real and varied food during the ultra with planned self-provisioning stops, and progressive recovery after finishing. Race strategy prioritises sleep management, sustained low power output, and anticipation of the hardest sectors such as the bergs and the Ardennes.
